Frequently asked Architectural Review Committee (ARC) questions:

Q: What is the purpose of having architectural review?
A: Our Covenants of the Oakton Estates Homeowners Association (OEHA) incorporate an Architectural Review Committee in order to best preserve the character, maintenance, & economic value of our neighborhood.

Q: What is generally covered under the Architectural Review Guidelines?
A: Typically it covers any exterior alterations to our properties, such as fences, sheds, paint colors, awnings, walls, swing sets, remodeling/additions & any other exterior structures & modifications to our properties.

Q: Who should be contacted?
A: Check the front of the directory or the current list of committee on our website for members of the ARC.

Q: What is the process?
A: First, fill out an “Application for Review & Approval” Form, located in the OEHA directory or downloaded from our website. Fill the form out completely and include any drawings, samples, and contractor specifications for the project. In most cases the form will require neighbor signatures to “concur” & acknowledge that they are aware the project will take place.
Submit the form at least 30 days prior to project start date & mail it to the OEHA post office box address. Completed forms can also be emailed to the members of the ARC.

Your application will be reviewed & in many cases a “site inspection” of your property will occur. This includes an actual visit to your property to understand the exact location of where the structures will be added/changed.

Q: What is the criteria for approval?
A: First, all structures/changes must be in accordance with our covenants. Materials & workmanship should be equal to that of the surrounding area, & structures/additions should be compatible with the existing house, adjoining houses & neighborhood setting. Additions & remodeling are viewed as “upgrades” to our neighborhood & properties, while fences, sheds & other utilitarian projects are approved based on the least impact with design compatibility to the property & adjoining properties.

Q: What if I have additional questions?
A: Please contact a member of our ARC. We’ll be glad to help & provide suggestions based on previous similar projects. Good Luck & enjoy your new projects!
